The Science of Sleep
"If you want something done ask a busy person" my girlfriend tells me the other day when I mentioned the trouble I've had sleeping the past several months. It's true, I'm a very busy person and I do a lot to get a lot done. One of the counterparts to a brain rampant with ideas is gaining the control to shut it off at will. Ever since college I've found myself fascinated with the power of dreams. When in healthy proportion, we spend as much time sleeping as we do at work (if you work in another industry...)
About 90 minutes after you fall asleep you'll enter a what is called REM sleep, or Rapid Eye Movement. It's a state of low-voltage, high-brain activity sleep. The sleep that dreams are made of. Literally. Non-REM or deep sleep is restful, but dreamless. Understanding how sleep works can work wonders for your waking life.
Enter MyZeo. MyZeo is two things, a fere app and a headband you were at night. I have yet to purchase the headband ($100), but have begun to use the app on a nightly basis. It uses the accelerometer in your chosen smartphone to guess when you're sleeping, restless or likely awake. So far, it's pretty impressive for a free app that sits under your pillow while you sleep. I'm planning on purchasing the headband for running season and will keep you posted.
